A Weekend of WOW

My wonderful husband shocked me with a surprise 30th birthday weekend at L’Auberge de Sedona this past April, and it would have been hard to wipe the smile off my face even if the surprises ended at check in. But, like any magical stay at L’Auberge, check in is just the beginning! Upon arrival, my husband suggested we grab a little lunch while our room was being prepared, so we strolled down to the restaurant and were seated at the most quaint table right on the creek. He ordered a bottle of Champagne and we toasted to starting the celebration off right! While we enjoyed our exquisite meal and a show by the “resident” ducks on the creek, the hotel decorated our room with rose petals. When I walked into the room, it took my breath away! After a romantic, wine-filled afternoon on our veranda, I was surprised to find …

Sedona Preposal

We were sitting in our living room in New Hampshire when Dan unfolded a map of Sedona. I thought he was beginning another on of our daydream stories but it became very real when he showed me our flight tickets.  I have had a fascination with Sedona, Arizona since I was a little girl looking through National Geographic magazines.  I’ve shared daydreams of  sunset hikes to historic sites, seeing flora and fauna that can only be seen in the southwest and fields dotted with cacti species with flowers and moths in the moonlight. We arrived at L’Auberge de Sedona on Oak Creek and we were amazed by the juxtaposition of the thriving river and the desert towering above us. This was just the beginning of our awe inspiring stay. Our many treks included a hike to Devils Bridge, finding desert windflowers, Hananki and Palatki Native ruins. At the end of …

A quick afternoon of shopping… or so I thought!

On the last weekend before Christmas my husband and I had planned on an afternoon to finish up Christmas shopping. I was rushing to get ready and was frustrated because I couldn’t find my favorite jeans to wear so had to settle for different ones. Before leaving my friend called saying she needed to borrow 2 eggs and a stick of butter. I ran them over and after a few minutes got a text from my husband that we should get going. His parents had just gotten to our house to watch our daughter and we were off. About a mile before the exit for the mall my husband decided he didn’t want to go to that mall. He said there was a great new outlet mall open north of Phoenix and wanted to go there. After stopping for Jamba Juice we headed north on I-10. After about an hour …

Are you kidnapping me?

This trip idea first started as just a referral to a beautiful resort in Sedona.  So I thought to myself, what a perfect Valentines Day gift this would be! So for Valentines Day, my wife opened a little box that had a note that stated, Good for a one night stay in Sedona.  She loved it, however, we made no immediate plans to come up due to having trouble getting a babysitter to stay overnight with our daughter. Without her knowing, I was able to organize this magical trip by asking my parents to help us out.  I called the resort and booked a Saturday night stay and started secretly packing bags for the both of us.  While my wife was at work, my parents and I were able to construct a plan to allow my wife and I to get away for an “afternoon” shopping trip.  With the car …

Honeymoon

Sedona Dreams

Arizona has always had a special place in my heart.  I lived in Phoenix briefly and had planned to relocate there until I met a special woman in Cleveland, Lindsay.  After only a few dates I realized how special she was and knew that I was going to be staying in Cleveland.  My passion for the American West still has not subsided.  We vacationed in Scottsdale early in our relationship and spent a day exploring the beautiful red rock of Sedona.  When Lindsay suggested we spend our honeymoon in Sedona, I was overjoyed. Lindsay had seen a story on L’Auberge as part of a show on luxury getaways and added it to her list of dream destinations before we met. I am a CPA so I will admit I was a little unsure at first when I saw the cost of staying in the Spa Cottage, but as all good …

The Honeymoon Before the Husband

The Honeymoon Before the Husband

Six or seven years ago, I was at the gym, barely awake, throwing my bag into a locker before catching a morning workout. I was heading out the locker room door, but paused at a TV where a story about fall getaways on one of those morning news shows caught my attention.  They mentioned L’Auberge, and showed a couple shots of the creekside dining and beautiful cabins, and I was hooked.  I looked it up when I got home and was floored by the beauty of L’Auberge and the Sedona area.  I was looking for somewhere to vacation that fall, but L’Auberge was definitely a couples sort of place, and alas, I was painfully single.  So I stashed the link in a file of bookmarks I have on my computer entitled “Places to go Someday,” and put it out of my mind. Fast forward a couple years later- I was …

Anniversary

Our Wedding Anniversary

My wife and I were sitting on the balcony of our high-up Vista cottage watching the sun set on L’Auberge below and the red rocks in the distance toasting with ice-cold champagne which greeted us when we checked in. The view is more than magnificent. Indescribable. Then there was a knock at the door. I smiled at my wife and went to let in the room service server. But this was no ordinary room service menu order. You see, at L’Auberge you can order from the L’Auberge gourmet restaurant’s full dinner menu. Our anniversary dinner — in private — just the two of us. Just the way we wanted it… Executed perfectly by L’Auberge, yet again. This year will be no different. We will return in July. Thank you, L’Auberge.

Surprise Stop in Sedona

My wife and I took a car trip for out 15th anniversary. I did not tell her the last stop was Sedona and L’Auberge. We had never stayed there, but I thought the grounds looked nice online. The pictures and comments did not do it justice. We are older / semi-retired cats and fell in love with it the moment we drove down the driveway. You can’t put a romantic moment in better hands. We booked dinner the first night, and had booked dinner at another well known eatery the next. After a lovely evening and dinner by the creek, we canceled out other old favorite and booked in there again. As part time thespians we loved the stories of the who’s who of the past, but even more the friendliness and devotion to care of the staff. This special occasion has my wife asking when can we go back. …

Rainbow at L’Auberge

It is easy to tell a love story from the point of view of a couple getting engaged or on their wedding day.  Everyone is happy and feels in love then.  What is more important is to tell a love story from the point of view of a couple who have weathered storms together, come through drenched, but still in each other’s arms. That is our story…and, by the way, it leads us to L’Auberge.  Our love story began the way most do, with rose petals, champagne, a proposal…all culminating in the most perfect wedding day we could have imagined. After a year or so of marriage, we decided to try for a baby.  Our pregnancy with our son, Noah, was such an exciting time.  We looked forward to being new parents.  We stayed up late talking about what type of parents we would be, how loved our baby would …

Maiden Voyage, Proposal

The Beginning of Forever One Red Rock at a Time

I’d only been to Sedona once or twice as a child with my family, even though I’d been born and raised in Arizona. I knew nothing about the small town, how beautiful and stunning it is, and wasn’t interested. Then I met Martin and everything in my life, including my interest in Sedona, Arizona, changed. We met in college, both attending Arizona State University, through mutual friends and slowly but steadily grew to know one another. I wasn’t looking for anyone at the time, and initially I saw him as nothing more than a friend of a friend. He wasn’t my type, not the kind of guy I was usually attracted to, and so  I gave it no more thought. Martin, however, decided that casual acquaintances wasn’t enough. He slowly and quietly began to open doors in our friendship and before I knew it he was a very important person …
